Sometimes you need more than a mom.

I'll always be here with practical advice and a kind word, but some things need a professional. Reaching out is brave, not weak. Here's where to start.

  • In immediate danger: call 911 (US) or your local emergency number.
  • Thinking about suicide or in emotional crisis (US): call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or chat at 988lifeline.org.
  • Crisis Text Line (US): text HOME to 741741.
  • Domestic violence (US): National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788.
  • New or expecting parents (US): National Maternal Mental Health Hotline, call or text 1-833-852-6262 (1-833-TLC-MAMA).
  • Grief: find a local grief support group through your hospital, hospice, or place of worship.
  • Finding a counselor: ask your doctor for a referral, check your insurance's directory, or look for sliding-scale clinics near you.
  • Outside the US: findahelpline.com lists free helplines by country.

I'm a mom, not a therapist, doctor, or lawyer. I'll tell you what I'd tell my own kids, and I'll always tell you when it's time to call a professional.
